Track 3: Polymer Nanotechnology
The field of Nanotechnology is one of the most popular areas for current research and development in basically all technical disciplines. This obviously includes polymer Nanotechnology which include microelectronics (which could now be referred to as nanomaterial). Other areas include polymer-based biomaterials, nanomedicine drug delivery, Nano emulsion particles, fuel cell electrode polymer bound catalysts, layer-by-layer self-assembled polymer films, electrospun nanofibrications, imprint lithography, polymer blends and Nano composites. Even in the field of nanocomposites, many diverse topics exist including composite reinforcement, barrier properties, flame resistance, electro-optical properties, cosmetic applications, bactericidal properties. Nanotechnology is not new to polymer science as prior studies before the age of nanotechnology involved Nano scale dimensions but were not specifically referred to as nanotechnology until recently. Phase separated polymer blends often achieve Nano scale phase dimensions; block copolymer domain morphology is usually at the Nano scale level; asymmetric membranes often have Nano scale void structure, mini emulsion particles In the large field of nanotechnology, polymer matrix based Nano composites have become a prominent area of current research and development. Exfoliated clay-based Nano composites have dominated the polymer literature but there are a large number of other significant areas of current and emerging interests like biomedical applications, electrical/electronic/optoelectronic applications and fuel cell interests. The important question of the “Nano-effect” of nanoparticle or fiber inclusion relative to their larger scale counterparts is addressed relative to industrial crystallization and glass transition behavior.

Track 5: Biodegradable Polymers
Biodegradation of polymers are a clearly defined type of polymer that breaks down after its intended use to result in natural byproducts such as gases (CO2, N2), water, biomass, and inorganic salts. The comprehensive usage of biodegradable polymers in medical devices is expected to exert force on the global biodegradable polymers market. Chemically, a polymer having a double-carbon (C-C) backbone withstands degradation, while the hetero-atom-containing polymer backbones (C-X) are biodegradable. One of the first medicinal uses of a biodegradable polymer was the catgut suture, which dates back to at least 100 AD made from the intestines of sheep, but modern catgut sutures are made from purified collagen extracted from the small intestines of cattle, sheep, or goats. The rise in environmental pollution due to the exploitation of petroleum-based polymers, which are non-biodegradable in nature, has cause to the expanding need for biodegradable polymers. The use of biodegradable plastics has led a new way for the recycling of the plastic products

Track 6: Electronic and Radiation-Related Polymers
Radiation processing is employed to a wide extent in plastics engineering to intensify the physical properties of polymers, such as chemical retardation, surface properties, mechanical and thermal properties, particle size reduction, melt properties, Compatible materials, fire retardation, etc. Chemical reactions can be introduced by radiation at any degrees of temperature, under any pressure and no matter in any phase (gas, liquid or solid) without employing any catalysts. The irradiation of polymeric materials with ionizing radiation (É£ rays, X rays, accelerated electrons, ion beams) has shown a route to the formation of very reactive intermediary products. Beside radiation, polymers do have electronic conducting properties which covers fields of Nano electronics, optoelectronics, bioelectronics, medical electronics etc. Some of the organic conducting polymers in use are Polyacetylene, Polyaniline, Polythiophene etc. These products can follow many reaction paths, which result in rearrangements and formation of new bonds. The ultimate effects of these reactions can be the formation of oxidized products, grafts, degradation or cross-linking.
